COEHS Research Mini-Grants
These awards are to support tenure track faculty whose intent is to use the funding to be more competitive in external grant competitions. Funding can be used to hire a student employee to support research, data collection, supplies, etc. Funds cannot be used for travel related to dissemination. Available funds are announced each year, but historically award ranges are $4,000-$10,000. Competition is early fall with a deadline at the end of September.
Dean’s Graduate Student Research Fellowship
These awards are designed to enhance faculty research and PhD student recruitment. This award provides a RA position for an incoming PhD student for a full year (stipend, tuition, health insurance) to work with a faculty member who is committed to applying for external funding to support the student in future semesters. Tenure Track Faculty apply for the award. Available funds are $200,000. Competition is in mid fall with a deadline of October 31st.
Research Funding Requests
This funding can be allocated according to the specific need or requirement of the research project. They are designed to be responsive in providing resources when they are needed. Example requests have included: publication fees, covering UNM mandatory raises when external funds cannot, support in covering negative balances in external funds, etc. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis by the ad hoc Research Advisory Council.
